Job Opportunity: Assistant Planner for Buffalo Place
/Buffalo Place is looking for an Assistant Planner with a passion for Downtown Buffalo.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Urban Planning or a related field, plus two years of related professional experience or Bachelor’s degree and significant additional experience.
Required Skills:
• Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written, graphic, and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Access experience is helpful.
• Experience with GIS software – ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro with geodatabase development, editing and analysis skills.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, maps and basic technical documents.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as having the ability to advance projects individually.
• Ability to research, collect and analyze information to draw conclusions.
Typical Work Assignments:
• Prepare grant applications for programs to support investment in downtown buildings, businesses, and public spaces.
• Administer grant programs involving overview of design, bidding, and construction work.
• Collect information about downtown, analyze data, draw conclusions, and prepare presentation materials which may include reports, presentations, charts, maps, and signs.
• Develop, execute, and analyze surveys of downtown groups.
• Identify stakeholders, community and advocacy groups, owners, and tenants who should be informed about projects; and prepare documents.
• Familiarity with public sources of information such as US Census, NYS GIS Clearinghouse, and Open Data Buffalo.
• Track property ownership, tenancy, or business information for Buffalo Place database.
• Prepare monthly information reports to Buffalo Place Board of Directors.

Starting Salary: $50,000/year
Work Environment:
Buffalo Place’s daily work is generally an 8-hour shift in person with a 1 hour paid lunch Monday to Friday. Planner will work primarily in the Buffalo Place office in Downtown Buffalo, but will also be required to attend meetings and perform fieldwork within the district. Physical demands – ability to lift 20 pounds, ability to sit for long periods of time, ability to walk for periods of time.
