The St. Lawrence County Planning Office is seeking an entry level Planner to join a group of other professionals working in the largest County, by area, in the State.  The successful candidate will have strong communication and writing skills and be familiar with GIS.  Work will be varied but responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data, preparing graphic materials, assisting with community planning projects and programs, and staffing various advisory boards such as the County Planning Board, Environmental Management Council, Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board and Fair Housing Taskforce.  The work is closely reviewed and is performed under direct supervision of a higher level Planner or the Director of Planning, but incumbents are allowed to work under more general supervision as they increase in professional competence.

The Town of Tonawanda, located in northern Erie County, New York, is a first ring suburb of the City of Buffalo with an approximate population of 73,000 residents. With over 5 miles of waterfront access along the Niagara River and an evolving industrial corridor, the Town of Tonawanda is certainly in a prime position to continue to grow as a municipality. The work involves assisting in the performance of planning and research activities related to county, urban or regional planning. The incumbent performs planning and administrative duties. This class differs from that of Assistant Planner by virtue of its expanded scope and increased level of responsibility. Work is performed under the direct supervision of higher-ranking planning personnel. Supervision may be exercised over a subordinate staff assigned to specific projects. Does related work as required.

This position leads economic development initiatives funded through the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC), and related state and federal programs while supporting administration and growth of Capital Region Foreign-Trade Zone #121.

Salary Range: $65,026–$105,421 depending on qualifications and appointment level.
