APA NYU has 5 sections within the Chapter, based on geographical location. One of the benefits of joining APA NYU is access to the activities and programs coordinated by the Chapter’s various sections! This month we’re featuring the Section Director for Western New York – Kim Amplement!

𝗞𝗶𝗺 𝗔𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗺𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁

🟦𝑩𝒐𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑹𝒐𝒍𝒆: Section Director
🟦 𝑹𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕: Western New York
🟦 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒚𝒐𝒖'𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒗𝒐𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝑨𝑷𝑨 𝑵𝒀𝑼: I started as the Secretary for the WNY Section in 2014 because I was just out of school and was a great notetaker. Now, 10 years later, I am the Section Director (since May 2023) so I am more involved with the Chapter in this role.
🟦𝑭𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒂𝒓𝒅: Being involved in the WNY Section and the NYU Chapter has always been a high priority for me since this profession tends to be small/close-knit and you work with a lot of the same continuously. My involvement introduced me to so many people and really keeps me connected both on a professional and personal level with colleagues and friends in the planning world. Being on these boards has also enabled me to help both students and professionals grow their careers and make real world impacts.
🟦𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖'𝒅 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑: I am also a volunteer (and Secretary) on the ProZoo Board, a subsidiary board of the Buffalo Zoo Board, which is a group of young professionals who organize fun events (Zoobilation!, Golf Tournament, Run for Rhinos) that all raise money for the Zoo and wildlife conservation and education! Big animal lover over here!
