/The Director of Planning and Development is responsible for administering, and supervising activities in the office. The position involves responsibility for the development, oversight, and coordination of a comprehensive planning program for the County by providing technical assistance to municipalities in areas such as land usage, business development, waste management, and water resource management. The position also involves representing the County on a variety of planning related organizations and boards. The work is performed under the specific administrative and supervisory direction of the County Administrator and the general direction of the County Board of Supervisors. This position has the power to appoint deputies, assistants and employees as may be necessary; such appointments must be approved by the Board of Supervisors.
Orange County, New York, Department of Planning is accepting applications for the position of Principal Planner. This position is currently in the NYS HELPS program and is not subject to Civil Service Examination. This supervisory position is responsible for specialized professional and technical work related to municipal, community, county, and regional transportation planning, especially as it relates to the federally mandated allocation of federal transportation and capital funds under the auspices of the Orange County Transportation Council, which is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for Orange County (MPO).
