Job Opening: Senior GIS Specialist; Cayuga County

The Cayuga County Department of Planning and Economic Development is excited to post an opportunity to join an excellent planning team with an immediate opening for a Senior GIS Analyst. We are a multi-disciplined, progressive Planning & Economic Development Office with a staff of nine, including a Director, two support staff and five professional planners committed to assisting the 23 Towns and 9 Villages within the County, improving the quality of life in our communities and protecting our natural resources.

The open Senior GIS Analyst position is a unique position within the department focused on providing GIS services within the department for land use, community and economic development projects, and GIS services to partner departments and agencies. Although GIS services cover a broad range of planning applications, there is also an opportunity to apply GIS-based modeling and analysis to ongoing environmental and resource protection planning initiatives.

The Planning Department’s broad scope of work provides room for career growth in municipal and land use planning, environmental resource protection planning, and community and economic development. The Senior GIS Analyst will have an opportunity to work with staff and partners implementing the recently adopted EPA Nine-Element Plan for the Owasco Lake Watershed, to provide GIS support for town and village comprehensive plans, zoning ordinances and open space plans, contribute mapping and analysis services in support of recreation and farmland protection plans and economic development activities. AICP-certified planners are encouraged to apply.

The department provides an open and collaborative work environment with a flexible hybrid remote-work policy in place. This is an excellent opportunity to join a team of committed professionals engaged in a broad range of County-wide planning, environmental resource protection and economic development activities.
