RFP: Smart Growth Comprehensive Master Plan for the Town of Remsen
/The Town of Remsen is requesting proposals from qualified consultants to develop a Comprehensive Master Plan to address current conditions and guide future sustainable growth within the municipality. A 2023 Smart Growth Comprehensive Planning Grant is funding this project; the grant was awarded to the Town of Remsen from the Department of State, Environmental Protection Fund Smart Growth Community Planning and Zoning Program. As required by the grant, the successful firm will enter a contract with the Town of Remsen and work with the Town’s Comprehensive Planning Committee.
Established in 1798, The Town of Remsen is Nestled in the western foothills of the Adirondacks and located in Northern Oneida County. The town has a total area of 36.9 square miles and a population of approximately 1600.
As is common in Northern NY rural communities, The Town of Remsen has a low population density with concentrations within the Village of Remsen and around Kayuta Lake. Open lands are abundant, and a mixture of agriculture and undeveloped forestlands. The Town is experiencing developmental pressures similar to neighboring rural communities, with the decline of the dairy industry and an expanding tourism pressures and second home development.
Orange County, New York, Department of Planning is accepting applications for the position of Principal Planner. This position is currently in the NYS HELPS program and is not subject to Civil Service Examination. This supervisory position is responsible for specialized professional and technical work related to municipal, community, county, and regional transportation planning, especially as it relates to the federally mandated allocation of federal transportation and capital funds under the auspices of the Orange County Transportation Council, which is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for Orange County (MPO).
