Chapter News: Sam Gordon Named ESF Graduate of Distinction

Syracuse, NY | Environmental Design & Research (EDR) is proud to congratulate Sam Gordon, AICP, Planning Practice Area Leader, on being named a Graduate of Distinction – Notable Achievement by the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF). Gordon was recognized during the Feinstone Awards Banquet held in conjunction with ESF’s Fall Fest: Homecoming and Family Weekend celebrations.

A three-time ESF graduate, Gordon earned his Bachelor of Science, Environmental Policy and Management in 1997, a Master of Professional Studies, Community and Environmental Land Use Planning in 2001, and a Master of Landscape Architecture in 2005. The recognition honors Gordon’s 26-year career helping communities across Central and Upstate New York plan for thoughtful, sustainable growth.

His career includes leadership and experience spanning neighborhood revitalization, regional clean-energy initiatives, and the award-winning countywide Plan ONondaga comprehensive plan.

At EDR, Gordon serves as a Planning Practice Leader, working with communities throughout New York to address complex planning challenges and create strategies for sustainable growth, community development, transportation, housing, and economic development.

Falco, EDR President. “His depth of expertise, collaborative approach, and genuine commitment to the communities he serves have made him an invaluable leader within the planning profession. We are incredibly proud to see his contributions recognized by ESF.”

Throughout his career, Gordon has combined technical planning expertise with a strong commitment to collaboration and public service. His work has been recognized by the Upstate Chapter of the American Planning Association with multiple Best Practice, Comprehensive Planning, and Implementation awards.

Each year, the ESF Alumni Association recognizes alumni whose achievements, leadership, and service embody the mission and spirit of the College. The Graduates of Distinction program celebrates those who have made meaningful, lasting contributions to their fields and communities.
