New York State Homes and Community Renewal (NYSHCR) consists of all the major housing and community renewal agencies of New York State, which were recently merged and integrated under a single management structure.
The Governor's Office of Faith Based Community Development Services, part of New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), supports not-for-profit organizations and serves communities across the state. The Office assists faith-based organizations in applying for grants from state agencies; provides informational resources for faith-based organizations to build capacity to provide effective services, offers technical assistance to improve organizational performance and increase sustainability; and creates a network of faith-based organizations to better coordinate efforts, build coalitions and develop effective partnerships.
The Deputy Director of Faith-Based Initiatives reports directly to the Deputy Commissioner of Faith-Based Community Development Services and assists in the leadership of the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based Community Development Services. The incumbent is responsible for managing the program on behalf of the Governor’s Office and would serve as liaison between the Executive Chamber and the Faith-Based team at Homes and Community Renewal.

Program Operational Leadership:
Provide effective leadership by being actively involved in the programs and services offered by the Governor's Office of Faith-Based Community Development Services including, developing a broad and deep knowledge of all programs and services.
Identify opportunities for the State of NY and HCR to leverage strengths or identify new opportunities to better support the faith-based community as they provide vital human services and serve as catalyst for economic development in the communities of the State of New York.
Assist the Deputy Commissioner in the development of an annual strategic plan for the Program.
Prepare and submit annual program progress made and/or challenges encountered.
Coordinate all efforts with the Deputy Commissioner for Faith Based Services.
Conduct special projects, as needed.
External Relationship Development:
Manage and cultivate existing relationships with Federal, State and Local municipalities.
Publicly represent the Governor's office within the community, at governmental events, and at various forums;
Represent the Deputy Commissioner of Faith-Based Initiatives in his/her absence.
Strategic Plan Implementation:
Provide programmatic leadership and input for all strategic plan implementation processes with the Governor's Office or HCR executive leadership Team.
Minimum Qualifications and Desired Skills:
Minimum BS/BA degree with at least 10 years of experience in senior program management.
Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff
Ability to implement program strategies
Deep experience in program funding
Analytic and decisive decision maker with the ability to prioritize and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals.
Experience managing and motivating staff at various organizational levels.
Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent public speaking skills.
Action-oriented, flexible, and innovative approach to operational management.
