Community Development Intern
This position exists in the City of Amsterdam Department of Community and Economic Development and involves responsibility for providing assistance in the planning, developing, and implementing of community and economic development programs. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Community and Economic Development Director.
Assists staff in collecting and preparing data for various planning projects;
Conducts field work, collects parcel data and searches land records;
Assists planning staff at community meetings;
Presents report findings at community meetings;
Researches funding sources and writes grant proposals;
Conducts basic office functions as needed, such as data entry, file management, and customer service;
Prepares maps and planning reports of limited or variable complexity; and
Assist in the DRI process and other projects at the discretion of the Director.

Graduated or enrolled in a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university, with a focus in planning, grant writing, business or public administration, economics, political science, or a related field; or enrolled in high school with an interest in planning and economic development.
The internship can begin and end based on the schedule of the chosen applicant, within the months of May to September. Successful applicants can work between 20 and 40 hours a week. The position will be located at Amsterdam City Hall, at 61 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
