Job Opening: Planner or Assistant Director, Village of Port Chester

The Department of Planning & Economic Development seeks a Planner or Assistant Director to help guide the redevelopment of the Village, especially its downtown and waterfront areas.

Working under the general supervision of the Director of Planning & Economic Development and as a fundamental member of a relatively small planning team, the Planner / Assistant Director positions offer an opportunity for the successful candidate to build skills in a wide variety of areas. The Planner / Assistant Director will help with long-range planning (especially the adoption and implementation of a form-based code), help guide development reviews, identify and manage grants and other funding opportunities, manage redevelopment and project studies, examine zoning, and provide project support to the rest of the Department, the Planning Commission, other Village advisory bodies and staff, and the Board of Trustees. 

The ideal applicant will have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to interact positively with the public and fellow staff members, and should be interested and well-versed in contemporary planning issues and concepts, including new urbanism, sustainability, transit-oriented development, planning for resiliency, and zoning. Experience in grant administration is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of GIS and the Adobe Design Suite, as well as urban design skills are a plus. As we are a majority Latino community; the ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.

The position includes the following specific duties:

·       Processing of site plans, zoning requests, special exception permits

·       Grants preparation, management, and administration

·       Economic and statistical analysis

·       Environmental review

·       GIS mapping and preparation of graphics

·       Knowledge of infrastructure and capital improvement projects

·       Coordination with other municipal agencies, commissions and governing bodies
