The City of Rome is currently seeking a full-time Planner within the office of Community and Economic Development. Job Description
This position involves the responsibility to assist professional planning staff in completion of projects and assignments by performing a variety of research and administrative activities with the programs undertaken. An employee in this class assists professional staff by gathering and analyzing data, writing and preparing reports, and administering programs. An employee in this class must also have strong public presentation and communication skills.
Department staff members provide consultation and instruction for more complex assignments. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of employees in this class. The incumbent does related work as required. An employee in this class should be self-motivated, goal-oriented, and well organized to assist professional staff. Work activities include office work and field assignments, including; researching, analyzing and developing planning programs, grant writing/administration, community engagement, and project implementation oversight.
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree Urban Planning, Architecture, or other related field. OR
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, or other related field and 2 years of full-time related professional work experience.
This position is subject to New York State Civil Service open-competitive examination requiring the selected candidate to pass and place within the top three highest scores on an eligible list for permanent appointment.
