Internship, Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council

The Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council is looking for interested applicants for a paid summer internship opportunity. The possibility for this internship to turn into a permanent full time position (for one individual) exists in the fall of 2018, if the skills and abilities of the retained intern match the anticipated need of the agency. An entry to mid-level Analyst position is anticipated to be filled in the fall. Any interns retained with appropriate qualifications will be considered for this position.

The internship is related to transportation planning and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as well as related technologies (mapping, GPS, databases, etc.). This position may also have substantial field work and transportation data collection tasks such as vehicular traffic counts, pedestrian counts, or review and documentation of existing transportation or land use conditions. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is helpful.

Skills, training, or classroom instruction in GIS are highly desirable. Other qualifications include: strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access desired.

This internship pays approximately $15/hour (DOQ) for a maximum of 37 hours a week. Applicants should be aware that some data collection will take place in the early morning (6:00-9:00 a.m.) and late afternoon (4:00-6:00 p.m.) and interns will be expected to have a reasonable amount of flexibility with scheduling. Opportunities to complete the required work within a “compressed” work week (i.e. 4 days per week) may be discussed.

The SMTC is flexible in terms of start and end date of the internship depending on the chosen candidate’s needs.

Interested applicants may send a resume to: James D'Agostino, Director Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council 126 North Salina St., Suite 100 Syracuse, New York 13202
