It is an exciting time for the Department of Planning and Sustainability. Recent retirements and promotions have created career opportunities and served as a catalyst for change and innovation within the Department. The Senior Planner will have an opportunity to work with a remarkable team of motivated professional planners, elected and appointed officials who appreciate the importance of planning, and a civically engaged population. Tompkins County is a community leader in energy planning, renewable energy, and energy efficiency efforts. We are a certified New York State Clean Energy Community and a Climate Smart Community. This position will work with commercial and industrial customers interested in installing renewable energy generation and incorporating energy efficiency in designs for new buildings and major expansion/remodeling projects. The incumbent would engage with business owners and energy managers one-on-one as businesses take steps to incorporate those aspects into their designs, and develop ways to finance those improvements. This position is currently funded through 2020, with the potential to continue that funding after that date.
