Amherst, a vibrant community of 126,000 residents, is the premier suburb of the City of Buffalo in western New York. Over the course of the past several decades, Amherst has undergone major changes that have reshaped its role in the economy of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. After a long history as a rural-agricultural community, the Town has emerged as an affluent bedroom community with a diverse economy, driven in part by the opening of the North Campus of the State University of New York at Buffalo. Distinguishing Features of the Position:
The Entry-level Planner’s assignments involve assisting experienced staff in the performance of planning and research activities related to long-range community planning including studies required for the maintenance of the adopted Comprehensive Plan and related master plans. Work is performed as a team member lead by a higher classified planning staff member and does not require the exercise of supervision over specific planning projects or activities.
