Amherst, a vibrant community of 126,000 residents, is the premier suburb of the City of Buffalo in western New York. Distinguishing Features of the Position:
Under the direction of the Planning Director, the Landscape Architect will prepare and review urban design plans, site concept plans, grading/drainage plans, landscape plans, construction drawings, specifications and cost estimates as related to existing and proposed park, recreation, open space, roadway and building site development. The incumbent gives direction to project engineers, architects and contractors involved with landscaping and park/trail, pedestrian and bicycle facility projects. Related work includes; review of site and landscape plans for commercial development and residential subdivisions; grant writing and administration; review, preparation and administration of local laws regarding landscaping and tree preservation; assists with the preparation of comprehensive plans and various planning studies as they relate to environmental issues and park, recreation and open space planning.
