The City of Rochester is seeking a City Planner. The salary range is $46,497 to $61,636/Annually. Typical work activities include: 

  • Conducts research studies to determine the feasibility of alternative plans in areas such as land use and transportation
  • Analyzes a variety of information and data to determine potential effect on elements of the Comprehensive Plan
  • Compiles documentation regarding individual development proposals for review by City or other land-use regulatory boards or agencies
  • Provides technical and procedural information to less senior planners
  • Prepares project proposals and reports to secure funding and/or comply with regulations or contract requirements
  • Provides support in such areas as information management, regulatory review and revision, application and site plan processing and other special projects
  • Attends board and staff meetings to discuss and present information about site plan proposals
  • Reviews applications and supporting documentation and determines if plans comply with zoning and related regulations
  • Identifies special processes available to or required of applicants seeking approval for land-use proposals
  • Provides information to the public in person and by phone regarding planning regulations, procedures and activities
  • Prepares correspondence related to various activities and decisions, according to prescribed standards
  • Analyzes proposals to determine if they comply with regulations or are consistent with the Comprehensive Plan
  • Responds in writing and by phone to requests for information by extracting data from materials on hard copy and computer files
  • Uses office automation equipment and processes to prepare reports related to a variety of topics in city planning.
