Senior Planner, Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council

The Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council (G/FLRPC) is seeking applicants for a Senior Planner for planning and economic development.

The Senior Planner has both program and project responsibilities, assists in the success of the organization and has general responsibilities, organizational responsibilities, and performs other duties as assigned.

Our mission is that G/FLRPC will identify, define, and inform its member counties of issues and opportunities critical to the physical, economic, and social health of the region. G/FLRPC will provide forums for discussion, debate, and consensus building, and develop and implement a focused action plan with clearly defined outcomes which include programs, personnel, and funding.

General responsibilities include an understanding of the mission of G/FLRPC and how it relates to its customers, programs/projects, and the organization; customer service; program and project development; process and product including meeting budgets, timelines, and deadlines; assistance with setting and measuring individual goals, objectives, strategies and tasks; and continuous and effective internal and external communication.

Program responsibilities include development and coordination assistance and support.  Use job knowledge, experience, and expertise along with organizational involvement, and project/planning responsibilities to assist and support program and project innovation and development.

The Genesee-Finger Lakes Region is a federally designated Economic Development District (EDD).  The main components of the G/FLRPC Economic Development program is to act as the planning agency for the Economic Development District and as such develop and implement the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), provide technical assistance in support to the regional economic development community, and development and involvement in other economic development related programs and projects.

Project responsibilities include technical support, initial project development, proposal identification and development, scoping and methodology, coordination, project management, stakeholder identification and involvement, data and information identification and acquisition, data and information research and analysis, product development including plans, reports, and related materials, planning process development and implementation, public, stakeholder and/or committee facilitation, participation, input, and integration, and development, delivery and/or attendance at presentations and meetings.

Organizational responsibilities may include assistance with development of organizational material, representing the organization at job related functions, seeking continuous improvement through training and professional development, identifying partnerships,  and coordinating collaboration opportunities.

The primary role of the Senior Planner for planning and economic development is to act as lead or assist in the development and completion of programs and projects, consideration and coordination of projects and policies related to economic development and planning activities throughout the Region, and provide planning and economic development technical assistance.  The Senior Planner is expected to both develop and manage economic development and some planning projects and work with other staff in their performance of planning, economic development, and data related projects.

A Masters degree in planning or related field preferred and two years acceptable experience or Bachelors degree in planning or related field and five years acceptable experience (economics, statistics, public administration) with an emphasis in urban or regional planning.
