AOT Planning Coordinator, Vermont Agency of Transportation

The Policy and Planning Section for the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) has an exciting opportunity in Montpelier, VT for an experienced transportation planning professional accustomed to working in a fast-paced, innovative environment. We are seeking to hire one person to serve as an AOT Planning Coordinator II.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues at VTrans, and other state, federal, regional and municipal agencies to create and evaluate policy options and prepare planning documents that address the most pressing transportation issues facing the state and inform Agency investments, activities and legislation. We are looking for an effective communicator with demonstrated technical skills in transportation planning and/or policy analysis.

Major responsibilities include preparing and managing planning projects and special studies pertaining to highway, rail, air, bicycle & pedestrian, public transportation and freight movement, as well as coordinating with State’s Regional Planning Commissions. Other responsibilities include data and policy analysis related to topics such as transportation funding, economic and demographic trends, climate change, energy, land use and development, and asset management. You will also assist in the preparation of discretionary grant applications in support of highway, rail, transit, and aviation projects. Minimum Qualifications


Master's degree AND four (4) or more years of progressively responsible experience in transportation, land use, or natural resources planning; managing a transportation program, system, or business; civil or transportation engineering; community or regional planning; or transportation logistics and goods movement, INCLUDING two (2) or more years of experience implementing comprehensive transportation studies and plans.


Bachelor's degree AND six (6) or more years as defined above INCLUDING two (2) or more years of experience implementing comprehensive transportation studies and plans.


Two years as an AOT Planning Coordinator I with the State of Vermont.
