2016 NY Upstate Chapter of the American Planning Association Board Elections: Call for Nominations

The Upstate Chapter Board is seeking nominations of individuals who are interested in serving on the Board. While the Board currently only has a vacancy for the Secretary position, all seats are up for re-election this year and we encourage you to consider running for a (2-year) position.

The general role of the Board is to supervise the affairs of the Chapter, with each officer having a set role they provide to the Board/Chapter. The Board meets at least 6 times per year (typically alternating in-person and via teleconference call with one meeting occurring in conjunction with the Annual Conference) and shall perform duties as specified in the Chapter Bylaws or customary to a Board. You can find a copy of the duties of Officers in the recently updated and adopted Chapter Bylaws: http://nyupstateplanning.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Bylaws-2015-Final-Adopted.pdf

A nomination committee consisting of individuals from Eastern NY, the Southern Tier, Genesee Finger Lakes Region and Western NY has been established to run the nominating process. Their role, per the bylaws, is to nominate at least one and no more than two candidates for each Chapter Office.  For the first time ever elections will be conducted on behalf of the Chapter by APA National. You will be receiving information from APA National regarding the election process later this year.

If you are interested in a position on the Board, you must be both an APA and New York Upstate Chapter member (in good standing). Please review the bylaws section regarding the duties of officers to determine the position of interest to you. Please email your statement of interest (in MSWord format) to James Levy, AICP – Interim Board Vice President (& Secretary) at jlevy@planning4places.com. The statement must contain your full name, full contact information, the leadership position you are interested in, and a bio/candidate statement (limited to 500 words or less). APA National is also asking all candidates to provide a headshot (this isn’t mandatory but highly encouraged – a separate jpg is preferred). If you are AICP and want this noted on the ballot, please make sure to include this on your statement of interest.

All nominations must be received by May 26th, 2016 – no exceptions.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact James Levy – jlevy@planning4places.com
