Of the 30,000 members of APA, approximately 2700 are student members and of the 730 NY Upstate Chapter members, 90 members are students. When you join APA as a student, you receive all the benefits of APA membership at a fraction of the cost.
The Student Representative Council is the student voice of APA. Students that are APA members and attend accredited planning schools make up the council.
Planning Student Organizations are organizations of 10 or more APA Student Members. They are intended to help develop strong working relationships between students and their respective Chapters, and to foster a sense of community between planning students nationally and even internationally. APA recognized PSO’s provide an opportunity for students to meet and exchange ideas and information on campus.
The Planning Accreditation Board is a cooperative undertaking sponsored jointly by three organizations: The American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP), and the American Planning Association (APA).

APAs popular Free Student Membership Program is about to enter its third year. Next week, with the help of planning faculty and staff, we will begin enrolling this years incoming third-year undergraduates and graduate students at 70 colleges and universities with PAB-accredited programs. We hope to have as many as 2,000 new student members signed up by the time this semesters enrollment window closes on October 4, 2006.I hope that you will do everything you can to welcome these new members, involve them in APA and chapter activities, and share your appreciation of APA membership. In the fall, well let you know how many students joined APA from schools in your state or region. Well also make some suggestions for ways you can engage these enthusiastic new members early in their free year. In the meantime, if you have ideas for enjoyable and creative ways to meet and greet them, please click HERE to let us know.
If youd like to learn more about our Free Student Membership Program, click HERE. I look forward to working with you to welcome our new student members.
Sincerely,
