TITLE: Planning & Development Program Manager
ORGANIZATION: City of Ogdensburg

The City of Ogdensburg is seeking applicants for a full-time Planner to manage the development and implementation of a Brownfields Area-Wide Plan (AWP) along the City’s Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA).  The selected planner will also oversee an update of the City’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan (LWRP).  The plans will integrate site cleanup and reuse strategies into feasible redevelopment projects while simultaneously addressing critical community needs such as economic development, job creation, housing, recreation, and education and health facilities. 

The City is one of only 23 communities across the country selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to receive assistance under the AWP Pilot Program.  Grant funding is available to fund the position for 2 years and the projects have over $400,000 in New York Department of State LWRP & BOA grants available for the procurement of planning, urban design, marketing and other professional consultants needed to complete the plans. 

The selected individual will have the opportunity to help plan a new future for a historic port City, to work with an ICMA award winning management team, and to live within 45 minutes of the Thousand Islands, Adirondack Park, and the capital of Canada, Ottawa, Ontario.  Applicant expected to be offered position in late December or early January with an anticipated start date by February 1, 2011.

TITLE: Onondaga County Sustainable Development Plan RFP
ORGANIZATION: Syracuse-Onondaga County Planning Agency
APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 5, 2011

The Syracuse-Onondaga County Planning Agency (SOCPA) has released an RFP for consultant services leading to the completion of a visionary and innovative new Sustainable Development Plan for Onondaga County.

Onondaga County is interested in developing a land development strategy that focuses on sustainable land development decisions. The plan will include an analysis of the fiscal, social, environmental, economic and other impacts of existing land use policies and practice. Involvement of local governments and citizens in a public dialogue on existing trends and new alternatives will be an essential component of the plan.

The plan is to culminate in the creation of policy directives and strategies for County operations, planning principles and standards to be used in initiating and reviewing development and infrastructure projects, and educational materials to engage the municipalities and citizens of Onondaga County in implementing the vision.

TITLE: Assistant Planning Director

Duties: The Assistant Planning Director carries out the day-to-day operations of the City Planning and Development Agency. The City of Watertown is in the process of hiring a Planner to join its Planning Office.  Watertown is currently experiencing growth and increased economic activity due to a recent expansion at nearby Fort Drum. 

Our Planning Office consists of three people involved in a full range of planning and community development activities.  Current projects include housing rehabilitation, brownfield cleanups, river redevelopment, downtown revitalization and zoning administration.

The successful candidate must qualify for the Civil Service exam and score in the top three of those taking the exam.  The exam is scheduled for Saturday, December 11, 2010.  The minimum qualifications and an application form can be found at our website: www.watertown-ny.gov.  The beginning salary will be $40,000-$45,000 depending on experience.
